Novelist Jane Austen's house in Chawton is a 10 minute drive from Walnut Tree barn and the home and beautiful gardens of naturalist Gilbert White in Selborne are a mere 15 minutes from us. A little further afield are the National Trust properties of Hinton Ampner, The Vyne and West Green House. Historic Winchester, once the capital of England, is a lovely place for some leisurely shopping and a visit to the famous cathedral, resting place of Jane Austen. In the 13th century Great Hall you can see the mythical Round Table of King Arthur's court. For the steam enthusiast, the Watercress Line will take you between the lovely market towns of Alton to Alresford in old fashioned style, on Saturday evenings you can even dine aboard. The John Pinkerton canel boat takes trips along the Basingstoke Canal stopping for a leisurely lunch at one of the many delightful village pubs. Or experience the thrill of gliding at nearby Lasham Gliding Club. |
